First, TPE has the meaning of TPR, TPU, TPV, TPEE, TPO, TPAE and so on. Chinese is called Thermo-Plastic Elastomer.
Usually, the user or TPE, as we call it, refers to the blending modification of thermoplastic elastomers based on SEBS. TPE in SEBS system has a hardness range of 0-100A and a transparent or natural appearance. The burning flame is yellow, blue or yellow, with light smoke and aromatic odor.
But in fact, when a user is looking for TPE, we should choose a suitable TPE type according to his specific requirements, instead of the TPE which is subjectively understood as a specific SEBS system at the beginning.
TPR, which is the name of users in Taiwan and even in Asia. At first someone synthesized and modified SBS to produce a kind of rubber, but this rubber is thermoplastic, meaning Thermo-plastic rubber, abbreviated TPR. After that, the SBS family developed SEBS, a high-performance material. The blended modified material, TPE, is called TPE by the manufacturer, to show the difference from the basic modified TPR of SBS. However, many users (especially in Taiwan and Asia) still use TPR, but pay little attention to the material differences of SEBS and SBS. In fact, there are some differences in TPE (TPR) performance between SEBS and SBS systems. TPR (based on the above analysis, in a sense, TPE of SEBS is a kind of material) has a transparent or white appearance and a hardness of 0-100A.
TPV is a blend dynamic vulcanized elastomer of PP and EPDM. TPV can actually be regarded as a kind of TPO, but because of its special dynamic vulcanization system, TPV has excellent comprehensive properties (solvent resistance, high temperature resistance and mechanical strength are better than those of SEBS TPE, TPR). TPV is the most successful and widely used rubber-plastic blend elastomer at present. The application of TPV in the automotive industry will be favored by the industry. TPV burns with the petroleum odor of PP, which is yellow or yellowish in appearance and usually has a hardness range of 50-100A.
